Colour Healing in Massage Therapy

Do you open your wardrobe in the morning and know just what colour or colours you need to wear for the day?

We humans have an innate relationship with colour ; it’s an international language we don’t have to learn, although we can become more aware of its importance in our daily lives as an enhancer of mood and energy level.

The benefits of massage for the musculo-skeletal system and nervous system are well-documented by massage therapists and massage patients. These benefits can be extended by incorporating healing work on the chakras. The word chakra comes from ancient Indian Vedic scripts, and means “wheel”. There are 7 major chakras, each of which has a different colour. Their function is to connect the physical body with the non-solid layers around us, also called the aura. The chakras are storehouses of our physical, mental and emotional state of health, and like all of the systems that make up our physical anatomy, they function better or worse depending on our state of health. In illustrations, chakras are depicted as circular, like moving wheels. ( See the page about massage therapy with the aura-soma colour system.) For clients who choose this type of massage therapy treatment, the first step is for them to choose the aura soma equilibrium bottle from the chakra set, that they are most drawn to. I then use some of its contents directly on the body during the treatment. After completing the massage, I dedicate time to allowing my hands to hover over each of the chakras in turn. The sensations that come from them inform me of their balance or imbalance, and I use a few drops from the equilibrium bottle to bring the chakra back into balance. The work is completed once the feeling in my hand over the chakra has changed to something more harmonious.

My follow up to this post will address our base or root chakra and its colour red.
